Instant View: Fed twists again, extending stimulus to weak economy

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve on Wednesday extended its monetary stimulus to an economic recovery that looks at risk of stalling, renewing its effort to depress borrowing costs by selling short-term bonds to buy longer-dated ones.

"Operation Twist helped to negate the effect of the acknowledgement of the slowing employment picture and slowing spending.

"The further stimulus is positive. The last couple of rallies were on expectations that that was going to happen. The statement of the employment growth, while disappointing, I don't think is surprising to anybody based on everything we've been seeing."

"There are still some oil market bulls out there but I'm not one of them for now. They stumble from one event to the next hoping that policymakers will provide some relief. But they forget none of these will actually increase the consumption of crude oil.

"The oil market is very well supplied. Inventories are growing as supply is rising faster than demand.

"Prices have fallen a lot already so I'm flat for the moment, rather than looking to sell, but the big downside risk remains is that this is not a repeat of 2011 but a repeat of 2008, with the euro zone crisis replacing the banking crisis.

"From a shorter-term trading or risk management position I don't want to step in front of this, in case we are in a 2008 scenario. We fell $115 between July and December in 2008, the rocket parachute failed to open. It's dangerous trying to scale back into this market."

THE PERSON
10+ years Consultancy experience in the oil & gas sector. Worked with or alongside the major consultancy firms in Supply Chain Management / Oil & Gas. Experience of de-centralised Supply Chain Management and Engineering business environments, global service and supply environment and distribution channels. Support, assist, guide and advise Project Managers on delivery of projects. Achieve project objectives, namely clearly defined, unified and lean Supply Chain Management processes across the company. Enable Supply Chain Management to support growth strategy, and to become a valued business partner to our internal customers.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Qualified to Post Graduate or equivalent level. Extensive hands-on consultancy experience in Supply Chain Management and Contracts & Procurement. All About My Wife (? ??? ?? ?) tells the story of Doo-hyun (LEE Sun-kyun) who after seven years of marriage wants to divorce his beautiful wife, Jung-In (LIM Soo-jung). After all the nagging, whining and complaining, he?s at his wits end, but can?t even bring up wanting to leave due to her non-stop chatter. Even him being assigned across the country does not give him rest from her as she follows along to be with him. Exasperated, he enlists the help of his new neighbour, Casanova Seong-ki (RYU Seuong-ryong), who literally has a queue of women pawing at his doorstep. Doo-hyun?s thinking, if he can?t leave, maybe he can make her leave instead and asks Seong-ki to seduce her.

If you were thinking this film is a romantic comedy, where two people meet, fall in love and the obstacles that they overcome to get together to give you hearts, rainbows and unicorns in the end ? it?s not that kind of film. Instead, it?s a film about how people stop listening to each other and the barrier that causes them to drift apart.

Surprisingly, this is not a typical romance comedy I would expect coming out of South Korea. Mind you, the humour is VERY Korean with all the whiny nagging chatter typical of many female characters in Korean comedies, but there was a certain depth to it. If I were to draw a comparison, Lucy Liu?s character Ling Woo in Ally McBeal would be the closest. A kind of fiery onslaught of complaints that people wish they could say out loud but never have the balls to do.

What ultimately shines in this film is the cast who are all playing against their typical roles. LEE is usually cast in domineering male roles, is timid and scared as Doo-hyun. LIM who graces the screen usually in a quirky serenity is loud, sexy and brash as Jung-In and RYU typically found in period films, dons a suit and a ridiculous aire similar to a writer/poet seduces as Seong-ki.

*side note: for fans of Running Man, LEE Kwang-soo is also in this film as a radio host whose ratings sit in the gutter until they put Jung-In on air.

I screened this film with my sister and her boyfriend who both laughed along with its ridiculous dialogue and situations the characters found themselves in. And still, it?s one of those films that makes you think about the one you?re with and if you?re being enough for them.

Happy belated Father's Day, internet -- now please enjoy some video of Ben Heck modding a toilet. The tinkerer-turned-host offered up one of his more unsanitary projects over the weekend, involving a bathmat, a Glade Plug-in, a porcelain throne and a Tron-esque lighting scheme. Step on the weight-sensing mat and the conductive ink will go to work, lighting up side illuminating fiber optics on the toilet, should the photocell determine it dark enough. All of this means not having to turn on the bathroom lights once that nightcap is ready to make the next step in its magical journey. And best of all, the lighting scheme is visible underneath the lid, so you can put the seat down, like the civilized individual you are. Video after the break.

US Refutes Taliban Claims That India Rejected Call For Greater Afghan Involvement

Refuting Taliban's claims that New Delhi rejected the U.S. call for greater engagement in Afghanistan, Washington praised India's "huge role" in Afghanistan while Pentagon said that the Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta's recent visit to India was "very successful."

The Taliban had earlier praised India for resisting the U.S. call for a greater role in Afghanistan after the coalition troops leave in 2014.

"We are pleased with the support that India is giving to strengthen security, stability, prosperity in Afghanistan," State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters Monday, according to an IANS report.

Pentagon reiterated the State Department's stance saying that India didn't say "no" to Panetta's proposals.

"I did not hear the word no from the Indians on any specific list. To my knowledge no specific list was presented," Pentagon Press Secretary George Little told reporters Monday, according to agency reports.

"I am not going to respond directly to the Taliban statement, but let me make it very clear that we had very productive conversations with our Indian partners about the future of strategic partnership with India, about closer military to military co-operation with Indians," Little said.

"And we signaled very clearly, Secretary made it very clear that India has a very important role to play in regional security to include in the transition in Afghanistan. We look forward to working with the Indians. We made that very clear as well. I would put this in the category of a very successful visit," he said.

Nuland, however, said she was not "aware that anybody has asked India to play a direct role in Afghanistan."

In a??statement?published on its website, the Taliban said that Panetta had arrived "with the hope the host country will welcome their demand" but failed as the "host's answer was negative."

"It is totally illogical they should plunge their nation into a calamity just for the American pleasure," the statement said.

During his recent visit to New Delhi, Panetta said that India was a "linchpin" in a new U.S. military strategy focused on Asia and urged India's leaders to continue with "additional support to Afghanistan through trade and investment, reconstruction, and help for Afghanistan's security forces."

The religious extremist group said, "The Indian people and their authorities are observing this illicit war for the last 12 years and they are aware of the Afghan nation and their demands."

"Although full details of negotiations have not come out to the press, it seems that the host's answer was negative. The forth mentioned secretary moved empty-handed towards Kabul without gaining any success or progress in his efforts," the statement said.

The Indian government, one of Afghanistan's biggest donors, has spent about $2 billion on various development projects. However, India's contribution to security spending in Kabul is limited to training Afghan military officers at military institutions in India.

Pentagon spokesperson said the U.S. was "very grateful" to India for offering training to Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).

Nuland expressed appreciation for "the economic support that it's (India) giving; the support that it's giving to the Afghan National Security Forces, including in police training."

Bobbi K a no-show at dad Bobby Brown's wedding

Pics posted on Instagram show Bobby Brown flanked by family and friends during his wedding to Alicia Etheredge -- including four of his five children.

People reports his children from prior relationships, 20-somethings Landon and La'Princia, were at the nuptials in Hawaii Monday. Bobby Jr., 19, and Brown's only child with his new wife, 3-year-old Cassius, were also at the ceremony.

But there was a noticeable void during what otherwise appeared to be a happy ceremony: Brown's daughter with Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was nowhere to be found.

It's no secret that the relationship between the 43-year-old R&B star and his only child with Whitney is rocky at best.

The 19-year-old reportedly wants to legally change her name, and prefers to go by the name "Krissy."

If that's the case, it appears Bobbi Kristina is choosing "Team Whitney," as sides were clearly marked during the televised funeral for the late super-singer back in February.

During that funeral, it appeared that Brown was a no-show. He later claimed that the Houston family kicked him and the rest of Team Bobby (which included three of the aforementioned kids) out of the church.

The Houston family has reported that Bobby wasn't following the rules. They claim the star tried to bring his kids up to the front of the church during the funeral, when they were supposed to sit in the back with their uncle.

It's been speculated that a lot of hard feelings remain for the Houston family over Bobby's alleged involvement with getting Whitney hooked on the bad s**t in the first place.

Contrary to her wholesome image, Whitney herself has famously said she was using before she met Bobby.

Brown had been engaged to his current wife, manager Alicia Etheredge, since 2010.

The marriage came during a break in Brown's busy touring schedule with New Edition, and less than 24 hours after the group's concert in Honolulu.

Here's to hoping any new Brown family reality TV shows don't turn out like this.
