Panthers will not coach in Senior Bowl
Ron Rivera and his Panthers' staff will be in Mobile, Ala., this month for the Senior Bowl, but it will not be to coach in the annual all-star game.
Rivera said today the NFL informed the Panthers this week they had not been selected to coach in the Jan. 28 game, which follows a week of practices attended by NFL general managers, coaches and scouts.
?If they'd given us the opportunity to do it, we would have done it,? Rivera said. ?Any time you can go and coach it, it gives you the opportunity to get in front of the guys.?
Rivera said the selection of coaching staffs is similar to the draft ? beginning with the teams with the worst records. Obviously, teams that have fired their head coaches are not eligible.
Rivera said the league did not tell the Panthers which teams would coach the game.
?We were in the middle of the pack, and a couple of teams in front of us decided to do it,? said Rivera, who plans to spend four days with his staff in Mobile evaluating the talent.

A couple of observations for those calling for Offensive help in the draft:
The Panthers average points per game overall for the season was better (25.4) than 8 of the 12 teams in the playoffs.
The Panthers played 7 games against teams which made the playoffs this season... for those 7 games, they averaged more points per game (24) than the avg points per game of 6 of the 12 playoff teams.
No team made the playoffs who gave up as many, or more points than the Panthers on Defense. 8 playoff teams gave up less than 23 pts/game while the Panthers gave up 26.8/game.
This should clearly illustrate that Offense is NOT the need! Panthers score enough points that if the defense can average forcing one more FG instead of allowing a TD per game, they could be in the playoffs!

Rook Yates is a team player & proved he is playoff material with Bengals rook Dalton. After weeks of rest the Texans "A" squad proved why they won their conference.
ps Obv the Carolina Hoochies picked the wrong coach & qb & destined to remain bottom feeders for many yrs but somebody has to be the chumps.
