Aereo Still Under Legal Pressure | AT Tech News

The fight for free television is still raging and everyone is weighing in on the future of televised information and entertainment. In February of 2012 Inter Active Corp (also known as IAC) released Aereo, a free television service which can stream almost every broadcast networks to televisions, smart phones, tablets, and almost anything with the ability to connect to the internet. IAC is a very big business which focuses specifically upon internet and entertainment based products such as the Home Shopping Network, Interval Leisure Group, and Ticketmaster. But even though IAC is a huge business, they are relative small fries when compared to the huge television broadcasters which are turning their baleful stares and legal might against the company as they claim that the Aereo product infringes upon their copyright protections. Two unique lawsuits have officially been filed against Aereo accusing them of copyright violations on separate levels but it still appears that U.S. District Courts will not be rendering a final decision as of yet.

Free broadcasting entertainment programs and websites have recently become a hot topic in the past few years with sites such as Hulu.com offering absolutely free television and streaming internet radio stations also having a slight impact upon the issue. Many editorials are proclaiming that Aereo will mostly likely prevail against these two pending actions against them because Aereo is backed by Barry Diller. Diller is a well known media mogul who is very well connected in the world of television as has previously worked for and even headed up such big name television stations such as Fox, USA Broadcasting, and even Paramount Pictures. Many plugged in tech enthusiasts predict that the can use his considerable influence to swat down these two suits against Aereo but that his reach can only extend so far when it comes to copyright law and protection issues with free television.
